New Jersey Society of CPAs Awards 10 CPA Exam Fee Lottery Winners

— Lottery to Lower the Cost of CPA Exam Prep and Application

In an effort to reduce the burden of taking and preparing for the CPA Exam, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) has awarded 10 members with $750 each towards their CPA Exam fee costs. Chosen at random from more than 70 entries, the winners were either Student or CPA Candidate members of the NJCPA.

The CPA Exam Fee Lottery was created to offset the cost of taking the CPA Exam, which can often exceed $1,000 when factoring in all four parts of the Exam and initial application fees. Additional fees of several thousand dollars are also likely if Exam takers use review courses, study guides and/or other preparation.

The winners include:

  • Tyler Bell, Rowan University
  • Julia Commiso, Rider University
  • Amanda Croce, Fairleigh Dickinson University-Madison
  • Lauren Helfrich, Stockton University
  • Hafsa Ijaz, Monmouth University
  • Rebecca MacLane, Rowan University
  • Filippo Menegon, Stockton University
  • Amin Moawad, MEKY Accounting Firm LLC
  • Dayana Nunez, William Paterson University of New Jersey
  • Yaakov Rabhan, Fairleigh Dickinson University-Metro Campus

To be eligible, the winners must sign up to take the first part of the four-part CPA Exam between Dec. 1, 2021, and Nov. 30, 2022, and they must be currently enrolled in a New Jersey college or university or graduated within the past five years. Winners must also not receive compensation for taking the Exam from their employer.

“It is a pleasure to provide some financial relief to these aspiring CPAs who will be our next leaders in the business world,” said Henrietta Fuchs, CPA, president of the NJCPA Scholarship Fund and partner at CohnReznick LLP.

“Preparing for and taking the CPA Exam has become a significant expense. We are hopeful that lessening this financial burden somewhat should encourage them to pursue a CPA license,” added Ralph Albert Thomas, CPA (DC), CGMA, CEO and executive director at the NJCPA.

The lottery was made possible by the NJCPA Scholarship Fund, which, through the generous backing of members and accounting firms, has supported more than 2,000 New Jersey students totaling more than $7 million in awards since 1960.
