Considered to be one of the premier trial attorneys in the State of New Jersey, Donald A. DiGioia, Esquire, the principal of the Law Firm of Weiseman DiGioia, P.A., has been certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as both a Civil and Criminal Trial Attorney for over 30 years. His practice is devoted exclusively to trial law, which includes defending persons accused of crime, handling municipal court matters, as well as serious plaintiff’s personal injury cases and a variety of other forms of civil litigation. Over the years Don has successfully defended individuals charged with crimes ranging from minor offenses to capital murder, and he has represented clients in a broad spectrum of civil litigation.
Mr. DiGioia is named in the Best Lawyers in America publication, and he is an active Past President of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (ACDL-NJ). He is a Master of the Bench and Past President of the Richard J. Hughes American Inn of Court, an Advocate of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), and a member of the Million Dollar Advocates’ Forum. He has served on the Board of Governors of ATLA-NJ, the predecessor of NJAJ, and organizations which have recognized him as a prominent trial advocate include The National Trial Lawyers Association, New Jersey Monthly Magazine-Super Lawyers in criminal defense law, and others. Don was named the Professional Lawyer of the Year by the Union County Bar Association in 2004, and he received that honor again in 2010 from the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey. Only a handful of lawyers in New Jersey history have received that award twice. In 2016 Mr. DiGioia received the 1st Annual Walter R. Barisonek Criminal Attorney of the Year Award, and in 2017 he received the Equal Justice Medal. Mr. DiGioia has held the highest AV Pre-Eminent rating from Martindale Hubbell for over 20 years.
Mr. DiGioia obtained his Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law in 1976. He taught criminal trial practice and related topics as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University School of Law. Also, Mr. DiGioia is a frequent lecturer in the field of criminal law for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education, ACDL-NJ and the New Jersey Association for Justice (NJAJ). He also co-authored books entitled New Jersey Trial and Evidence and New Jersey Law of Personal Injury.
Currently Mr. DiGioia is President-Elect of the Union County Bar Association and a former member of the Union County Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointment Committee. He served as Chairman of the District XII Ethics Committee, and for the past 20 years Mr. DiGioia has been named as a Special Ethics Master by the New Jersey Supreme Court on an ad hoc basis. Also, he served as a member of the Supreme Court Criminal Practice Committee for the 2004-2006 term, and he was reappointed to that Committee from 2009 through 2015
Mr. DiGioia is a Life Member of both the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers-New Jersey (ACDL-NJ) and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL).
