Section 1031 remains in the tax code and interest in structuring real estate transactions as 1031 tax deferred exchanges has gained momentum. Attend this refresher to understand what’s changed and what remains the same under the new law.

Lee David Medinets, Esq. is General Counsel for all the affiliates of Madison Commercial Real Estate Services (MCRES). He is also Senior Counsel for the MCRES affiliate Madison Exchange, where he is responsible for all legal matters related to §1031 exchange transactions. A noted lecturer and author on the subject of §1031 exchanges, Mr. Medinets is also a Certified Exchange Specialist and active member of several Federation of Exchange Accommodators (FEA) committees, including the CES Council and Tax Advisory Board. Before joining Madison, Mr. Medinets was in private practice for more than 20 years. His practice focused on real estate, small businesses, municipal land use and §1031 exchanges. A long-time resident of Lakewood, Mr. Medinets has served the community in numerous capacities, including member of the Lakewood Township Master Plan Committee, mediator for the Ocean County Family Court's Early Settlement Program and member of the Lakewood Township Planning Board. Mr. Medinets holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Santa Clara. He is a member of the Bar in both New York and New Jersey and is an inactive member of the California Bar.
