OVERVIEW

Learn about the efforts to evolve initial CPA licensure to build a future-ready profession for a rapidly changing marketplace.

HIGHLIGHTS

The CPA Evolution initiative aims to transform the CPA licensure model to recognize the rapidly changing skills and competencies the practice of accounting requires today and will require in the future. It is a joint effort of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). Representatives from from NASBA and the AICPA will discuss these questions and more:
  • What is the proposed model?
  • What are the benefits of the proposed model?
  • What are the next steps?

Colleen Conrad, CPA

Colleen Conrad is the executive vice president and chief operating officer at the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA). In that role, she oversees all operations including NASBA’s CPA examination activities. She is a CPA and was a partner in a large regional CPA firm before joining NASBA to assume her current position.

Ralph Thomas

Ralph Albert Thomas, CPA (DC), CGMA

Retired CEO and Executive Director, NJCPA

Ralph is the CEO and executive director of the New Jersey Society of CPAs. He was appointed to AICPA’s National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion and the AICPA Foundation Board. Ralph is a former national and chapter president of the National Association of Black Accountants, was chair of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy’s State Society Relations Committee and is a member of the accounting advisory boards of Lehigh, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Montclair State, Felician and Thomas Edison universities and Middlesex County College. In January 2018, he was invited by Senate President Steve Sweeney to join his bipartisan Economic and Fiscal Policy Working Group. Additionally, Ralph was selected for the last eight years by Accounting Today as one of the “Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting.”

Julia Woislaw is the Lead Manager for CPA Evolution at the AICPA. Prior to joining the CPA Evolution team, Julia was the communications manager for the AICPA’s State Regulation and Legislation Team.
