Specifically tailored for practitioners who not only perform audits but provide other attest and non-attest services to small and medium-sized businesses, this course is a comprehensive update covering recently issued accounting, auditing, and SSARS standards, as well as other professional guidance impacting small and medium-sized business accountants. The course uses practical examples and illustrations to help you understand and apply the new guidance. Through a detailed review of the new lease accounting guidance, common special purpose frameworks, new guidance related to audits and SSARS engagements, and the soon-to-be-effected credit loss standard, this course will get you up to speed on the things that are most important to your smaller and medium-sized clients.

Richard H. Gesseck, CPA

AICPA/Professional Development Institute

Dick Gesseck provides accounting and auditing consulting to CPA firms. He has over 40 years of public accounting experience, including 20 years as an audit partner with Ernst & Young LLP and 10 years as a partner with regional/local CPA firms. He has served publicly and privately held companies in manufacturing, construction, real estate, distribution, service, and not-for-profit industries. He is the author or coauthor of several continuing professional education courses and has led hundreds of accounting and auditing seminars and conferences for which he has received numerous discussion leader awards. Dick updated the AICPA Audit Guide Auditor’s Risk Assessment in a Financial Statement Audit in 2012 for the “clarity standards,” and has coauthored CCH’s Master GAAP Guide for 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Dick is a past president of the Connecticut Society of CPAs (CTCPA) and has served and/or chaired many of its committees. He also served for many years as an adjunct professor at the University of New Haven, Quinnipiac University, UConn, and Fairfield University and also taught nationally recognized CPA review programs. Dick served as a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board Small Business Advisory Committee from 2003 through 2015. In 2015 he completed more than ten years of service as a member of the Connecticut State Board of Accountancy. He also serves on other boards and chairs audit committees. Dick graduated from the University of New Haven in 1970 and received that school’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2002. He received the 2013 Jack Brooks Leadership Award from the CTCPA.
