Just like competitive salaries, flexible work options are table stakes for top talent. With COVID-19, many teams have had to convert overnight to fully remote. But how do you lead in an environment where pants are optional? And what does it look like to lead someone who is more of a vendor than an employee? Using lessons learned, this session will explore the 4 Ps (Purpose, People, Platforms, and Processes) to effectively lead a remote and even gig economy team.

    Karl Ahlrichs is a national speaker, facilitator, and author, presenting on AI Implementation and people issues, and is often quoted in the local and national media. Karl brings broad experience in Technology, Human Resources and Operations, giving organizations strategies and tactical answers to complex issues.

    Karl served on the senior staff of Gregory & Appel, an Indianapolis-based risk management firm, after serving as a founding partner of ExactHire. His clients have included Roche Diagnostics, Boeing, Apple Computer, and Frito Lay. He led the creating of the video training department at the headquarters of AB Dick Co., and has enjoyed a career in marketing, training, and human resources.

    Karl was named the SHRM Human Resource Professional of the Year for the State of Indiana. He has presented at the Annual SHRM Conference for more than 20 years. He holds the SHRM-SCP and Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) certifications, is a Virtual Master Presenter (VMP) from eSpeakers and is a Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) from the National Speakers Association.

    Rebekah J. Brown, CPA, is the manager of Membership Development and Engagement at the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA), and works to develop and engage the next generation of CPAs. Rebekah is active in the CPA social media scene, blogging for MACPA’s CPA Success, and tweeting and managing the social media presence of MACPA’s learning & innovation center, The Business Learning Institute. Rebekah is a certified facilitator in BLI’s I2A-Insights to Action Strategic Planning System and has used her facilitation skills to facilitate strategic plans for firms and non-profits, as well as, visioning sessions for accounting professionals in the United States and Canada. Rebekah earned a Bachelor’s degree in business administration dual specializing in Accounting and Sports Management from The Max M. Fisher School of Business at The Ohio State University in 2009.
