NJCPA Annual Food Drive Opens

15th Annual Food Drive to Help Community FoodBank of New Jersey

The New Jersey Society of CPAs has launched its fifteenth annual food drive to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. Both physical and online donations are accepted at various locations throughout the state now through Nov. 15.

The Community FoodBank serves 15 counties in the state, distributing food to charities, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, food pantries and other places of need. It provides more than 90 million meals through its network every year. Nearly 18% of children in South Jersey face hunger, according to the FoodBank.

Financial donations can be made online at njcpa.org/fooddrive. Non-perishable food donations can be dropped off at the office locations listed below unless specified as online only, or by appointment at the NJCPA offices in Roseland (contact Susan Dyer at sdyer@njcpa.org). The food drive is hosted by the NJCPA Emerging Leaders Council, an appointed leadership group that addresses the needs of NJCPA members with up to 10 years of experience, including aspiring CPAs and new licensees. Last year, more than 2,300 pounds of nonperishable items and canned goods and nearly $23,000 in monetary contributions were collected. Since 2010, the NJCPA has donated nearly 25,000 pounds of food to the FoodBank.

“If we can participate in even a small way in fighting hunger than we are ahead of the game. It’s important to realize that New Jersey has many pockets of vulnerable citizens, and we have a real opportunity to make an impact,” said Joseph Hunt, CPA, PSA, manager in the nonprofit group at CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA) LLP and chair of the NJCPA Emerging Leaders Council.

“I am proud that our members continue to give of themselves and donate their time and financial resources to the well-being of others. Taking steps to eradicate hunger is an important responsibility that our members have supported for years,” said Aiysha (AJ) Johnson, MA, IOM, CEO and executive director at the NJCPA.
