Memories of Theresa

Theresa's passing is a tremendous loss to the New Jersey Society of CPAs and to our entire profession. Over the course of her career with the NJCPA, Theresa poured her energy, talent and heart into advancing the organization's mission and supporting its members. Those of us who were fortunate enough to work with Theresa will remember her not only as an exceptional leader, but as a warm, generous colleague who always had time to listen, offer guidance and celebrate others' success. Her legacy lives on in the countless careers she helped shape, the initiatives she championed and the community she strengthened. She will be deeply missed, but her impact on the NJCPA and the accounting profession in New Jersey will endure for many years to come.

My heartfelt condolences to all who engaged Theresa & especially her Family for their Loss. Theresa was always smiling & always willing to help others, truly a special person. My Thoughts & Prayers are with You!
—Robert Traphagen

Theresa was a fixture at so many NJCPA events. She moderated many online CPE events that I attended, as well. She was very professional and intelligent, but also so warm and welcoming at the same time. With all the stress that surrounds us in the working world, it was always a small source of comfort to hear Theresa's voice on those CPEs! I am so thankful for her impact on our profession.
—Sarah O'Rourke

I can only echo June's and Christine's comments of Theresa - her radiant smile, her eyes that said "I am listening to you." and her positivity. She helped me get through my leadership time with the Hudson Chapter, encouraging to us all. She will be missed.
—Virginia Buczkowski

Farewell, my colleague and friend...Rest in Peace. “Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.'"
—Steve Mazur

When I think of Theresa, I see her radiant smile, her twinkling blue eyes, and the unwavering positivity she brought into every room. She carried a joyful spirit and a genuine can-do attitude that inspired everyone around her. I was truly blessed to work alongside her through my volunteer roles at the NJCPA, where she helped shape not only my journey, but the journeys of so many who came through NJCPA leadership. Theresa was an extraordinary friend, colleague, and role model. Her laughter, kindness, and steady encouragement lifted us all, and her absence will be deeply felt. She touched countless lives simply by being who she was—leading with grace, optimism, and compassion. I am profoundly grateful for the many wonderful memories we shared and for the lasting impact she leaves on all of us.

I am so saddened by the news of Theresa's passing and so thankful I had the opportunity over the years to spend time with her at various NJCPA meetings and events. Theresa was the Chapter Liaison for our Monmouth/Ocean Chapter for many years, and always encouraged those of us that were in leadership roles. She was an absolute inspiration in her strength and truly a leader of the leaders, and she will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure to know her. Deepest condolences and prayers for her beloved family.

Theresa deeply influenced my leadership journey within the NJCPA. Over ten years ago, she was the first welcoming face I encountered at an NJCPA chapter event. As liaison of the Emerging Leaders Council, Theresa reached out personally, asking about my interests, listening attentively, and connecting me with opportunities to get involved as a young CPA. Each year, we met to discuss leadership roles, and she consistently encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone and volunteer in various roles within the NJCPA. Her guidance and mentorship shaped my pathway to being a current NJCPA board member. I strive to be like Theresa, mentoring young CPAs with the same openness, encouragement, and commitment that she demonstrated toward me. Her impact on our community and on so many of us personally will never be forgotten.

"Theresa was truly a special person. As a NJCPA member, I always felt welcomed and valued in every interaction with her. When I chaired a committee, Theresa was the steady hand I could count on to keep everything on track. Her kindness, reliability and warmth touched so many of us. We are all fortunate to have known her, and her memory will remain an inspiration."
