New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants to Offer Scholarships for High School and College Students

ROSELAND, N.J. – The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) is now accepting applications for its accounting scholarships. College-bound New Jersey high school seniors, as well as sophomore, junior and senior accounting students at New Jersey colleges or universities are encouraged to apply. The scholarships also include minority high school awards.

Scholarships for High School Seniors

  • College-bound New Jersey high school seniors who intend to major in accounting or obtain a concentration in accounting at a four- or two-year institution are welcome to apply for a $1,500 scholarship. Students with a cumulative 3.2 grade point average or minimum 1260 SAT OR 26 ACT score are eligible.
  • In the second year of a two-year pilot program funded by Deloitte and the Deloitte Foundation, the Deloitte Scholars High School Minority Scholarship of $1,500 is open to college-bound high school seniors intending to major in accounting or obtain a concentration in accounting at a four- or two-year institution. To be eligible, applicants must meet the same academic GPA/test requirements as the other high school applicants but must identify as an ethnic minority and currently attend one of the following seven high schools: Rahway High School, New Brunswick High School, West Orange High School, East Side High School (Newark), Dickinson High School, Passaic County Technical Institute or Dwight Morrow High School.
The application deadline for both high school scholarships is Dec. 9, 2022.

Scholarships for College Students
  • The NJCPA is accepting applications for $6,500 one-year scholarships from juniors majoring in accounting who are entering their senior year and seniors who are enrolling in an accounting-related graduate program. Applicants must be a New Jersey resident, have a GPA of 3.2 and have at least 12 accounting credits by the end of the spring 2023 semester.
  • New Jersey college sophomores or second-year students at New Jersey community colleges who are continuing their education at a four-year college in the fall are encouraged to apply for a $2,000 one-year award. Applicants must have a 3.2 GPA, be a New Jersey resident and have at least six accounting credits by the end of the spring 2023 semester.

Both college scholarship awards have an application deadline of Jan. 6, 2023.

The NJCPA Scholarship Fund, which is supported by NJCPA member donations, has given out awards to more than 2,000 New Jersey students, totaling more than $7 million since its inception in the 1960s.

Henrietta Fuchs, CPA, president of the NJCPA Scholarship Fund and partner at CohnReznick LLP, as well as a previous scholarship recipient herself, explained, “Receiving the scholarship and attending the scholarship award ceremony opened my eyes to the huge network of CPAs that is available to us through the NJCPA.” She added, “Being a scholarship recipient and meeting CPAs who spend countless hours giving back to their communities and the younger generation also inspired me early on in my career to volunteer my time and give back.”

“These scholarships could not be possible without the generous donations of our members and member firms. It’s wonderful to be able to communicate the many benefits of this profession with aspiring CPAs and help support them financially,” added Ralph Albert Thomas, CPA (DC), CGMA, CEO and executive director of the NJCPA.

Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, standardized test scores, essays and personal interviews. For a complete list of eligibility requirements and apply for the awards, visit njcpa.org/scholarships. Winners will be notified in March of 2023.
