OVERVIEW

A panel of industry experts will discuss three key topics and trends relevant to the accounting industry: the impact of cryptocurrency and AI in accounting, corporate governance, and the importance of professional branding for practitioners, followed by interactive breakout table discussions. Breakfast will be available to attendees.

  • Cryptocurrency and AI in accounting: crypto update for accounting professionals, including a general crypto market update, tax specific treatments of ETFs, outlook for 2025 and examples from firms); and AI update for accounting professionals, including general AI use cases and examples, errors when deploying AI and examples of AI being used by firms. 
  • The role of accounting in corporate governance: increased focus and adoption of corporate governance domestically and internationally; impact of political, cultural and economic forces on corporate governance; characteristics of, and how to measure corporate governance (internal and external aspects); endogeneity in the relationships between corporate governance and other matters of concern to accounting; and other trends in corporate governance. 
  • Professional branding for accountants: what is professional branding; what is my professional brand; professional opportunities; brand statement and value proposition for career growth and business development; and how to incorporate branding in the mentor-mentee relationship. 

Following the panel presentation, participate in table breakout discussions to converse with other interested professionals and students in a free flow of conversation around the topic specific to the table.

Stanley Kolodziejczak, CPA

Stanley is a tax attorney with over 40 years of experience in accounting and taxation. Stanley focuses on helping professional service firms navigate the world of taxation and accounting. Previously, Stanley was the Tax Director at White & Case LLP, a top ten global law firm with operations in 34 countries. He oversaw international tax planning, financial reporting, and compliance for the firm, as well as advising on transactional changes, compensation policies, and optimization of structure. He is a certified public accountant, a certified management accountant, and a licensed attorney with a Master of Laws in taxation. Prior to White & Case, Stanley was the Tax Partner for PwC's Network Tax Function with responsibility for overseeing international tax planning, financial reporting and compliance for member firms in 157 countries. In the past, Stanley was Co-Chair of PwC's Law Firm Services group. Stanley is also an author and an educator. He has co-authored the fourth, fifth, and sixth editions of Law Firm Accounting and Financial Management, a comprehensive guide for law firm professionals. Since 2015, he has been an adjunct professor of law at Rutgers Law School, where he teaches Business of Law and helps students understand the economics of the legal profession. Stanley is passionate about sharing his knowledge and insights with the next generation of lawyers and accountants.

Sandra Richtermeyer

Sandra is a dedicated and high energy professional with 25+ years of experience in higher education including 17+ years in academic leadership roles. Committed to excellence in governance with 20+ years of experience as a board member and chair of global, regional, national and local boards. In her academic leadership roles, she has always maintained a strong and active presence in the local, regional, national, and global business community. She is dedicated to building relationships between higher education and all types of organizations including entrepreneurs, small business, mid-size companies, large global corporations, the public sector and nonprofit community. Each year, she gives dozens of presentations to a wide variety of professional groups on the topics of governance, risk management, internal controls, technology implementation, leadership, performance management, and strategy. She has delivered presentations on six continents and has consulted with a variety of boards on improving governance and effectiveness. In addition to her academic roles, she has worked as a CPA, CMA, and as a CEO coach. She is currently Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at Rutgers University Camden and also sits on the board of the MA society of CPAs.

Sean Stein Smith

Sean is an expert and sought-after speaker, focusing on the intersection of financial services, blockchain and cryptocurrencies. He is a regular contributor to IBM’s Blockchain Unleashed website, analyzing applications for blockchain technology on business at large, as well as being a regular expert guest on China Global TV Network discussing blockchain and related applications. Sean is a member of the Advisory Board for the Wall Street Blockchain Alliance, which coordinates with the AICPA in developing standards and reporting frameworks in this emerging area. Sean continuously works with, and consults for, the AICPA and several professional training organizations in the creation and delivery of blockchain and cryptocurrency related content. He is currently under contract to publish two books focusing on blockchain applications for financial services and other industry sectors. Sean is the host of the NJCPA TechTalk Podcast, a past leader of the NJCPA Emerging Technologies Interest Group and a member of the NJCPA Board of Trustees. He is a professor at the City University of New York - Lehman College.
