Jenifer L. Piovesan is the Special Agent in Charge for the Newark Field Office and has held that role since April 2024. In this role, SAC Piovesan is responsible for planning and evaluating the activities of personnel who conduct criminal investigations into tax violations and financial crimes in the Judicial District of New Jersey. The Newark Field Office is made up of seven posts of duty in New Jersey, a territory that covers 21 counties, including 564 municipalities comprised of 252 boroughs, 52 cities, 15 towns, 241 townships and 4 villages. Prior to her selection, SAC Piovesan served as the Assistant Special Agent In Charge for the Newark Field Office since 2022. She began her career as a Special Agent in 2009, in the formerly Las Vegas Field Office. In 2017, she was promoted to the Supervisory Special Agent position in the Los Angeles Field Office, San Diego post of duty. She also served as Senior Analyst with both the Strategy and Special Investigative Techniques sections. SAC Piovesan has a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Phoenix and an Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies. IRS-CI is the criminal investigative arm of the IRS, responsible for conducting financial crime investigations, including tax fraud, narcotics trafficking, money-laundering, public corruption, healthcare fraud, identity theft, bank secrecy act violations, COVID-19 fraud, and more. IRS-CI Special Agents are the only federal law enforcement agents with investigative jurisdiction over violations of the Internal Revenue Code, boasting a nearly 90 percent federal conviction rate. The agency has 19 field offices located across the U.S. and 11 attachés stationed abroad.
