NJCPA Announces 10 Winners of its CPA Exam Fee Lottery

The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) has awarded 10 of its members $750 each towards their CPA Exam fee costs. The CPA Exam Fee Lottery winners, which are Affiliate or Student members of the NJCPA, were selected at random out of more than 50 entries.

The annual lottery, which launched in 2019, was created to partially offset the cost of preparing for and taking the CPA Exam, which can exceed more than $2,500 considering enrollment fees, review courses, study guides and other prep work.

This year’s winners include:

  • Blimie Aron
  • Bolakale Ayuba, Rutgers Business School-Newark
  • Michelle Burda
  • Jacob M. Chesir, Fairleigh Dickinson University
  • Donovan Cruz
  • Brielle DeBarros, Montclair State University
  • Bernard J. Maslow
  • Micalia Moody
  • Anh H. Phan
  • Avrohom Sokol, Fairleigh Dickinson University

"It’s a rewarding experience to be able to give back to the next generation of accountants and assist them in their journey to become a CPA. The lottery reminds us of how important it is to alleviate some of those financial obstacles that may hinder them,” said Henrietta Fuchs, CPA, president of the NJCPA Scholarship Fund and partner at CohnReznick LLP.

"CPAs play such a vital role in society and in our local towns. The CPA Exam Fee Lottery helps smooth the pathway for these deserving individuals and assists in keeping the profession open to everyone,” added Aiysha (AJ) Johnson, MA, IOM, CEO and executive director at the NJCPA.

The CPA Exam Fee Lottery coincides with the NJCPA recognizing CPA Week from Nov. 5 through Nov. 11. Last year, New Jersey Senate Resolution (SR101), sponsored by Senator Steven Oroho (R-24) and Senate President Nick Scutari (D-22), designated Nov. 6 through Nov. 12 as New Jersey CPA Week.

To be eligible for the CPA Exam Fee Lottery, winners must sign up to take the first part of the four-part CPA Exam between Dec. 1, 2023, and Nov. 30, 2024, and they must be currently enrolled in a New Jersey college or university or graduated within the past five years. Winners must also not receive financial assistance for taking the Exam from their employer.

The lottery was made possible by the NJCPA Scholarship Fund, which, through the generous backing of members and accounting firms, has supported more than 2,000 New Jersey students totaling more than $7 million in awards since 1960.
