Here are the lessons I've learned in my first quarter century of working in public accounting. There is still a long way to go in this business, but I am very excited about the future of the CPA profession and all its possibilities.

Accounting educators today can implement a few strategies that will better integrate technology topics with zero or almost zero cost to students, such as crypto case studies and AI experimentation.

While there is great value in the traditional classroom format, students also desire flexibility that works with busy schedules. Colleges that adapt will be in a better place to hold the interest of students.

We at NJCPA support an alternative pathway to licensure but we have fundamental differences with the AICPA/NASBA proposal on how to get there. The basis of our recommendations is to ensure ease and to streamline the process to reduce barriers to licensing while supporting the rigor that is expected to enter the profession.
