New Jersey Society of CPAs Awards 10 Aspiring CPAs

— Lottery Coincides with State’s Certified Public Accountants Week

The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) has awarded 10 of its members $750 each towards their CPA Exam fee costs. The CPA Exam Fee Lottery winners, who were either Student or CPA Candidate members, were selected at random out of nearly 70 entries.

This year’s lottery coincides with New Jersey’s CPA Week, which was designated to be November 6 through 12 by New Jersey Senate Resolution (SR101). The resolution was sponsored by Senator Steven Oroho (R-24) — the only CPA in the Legislature — and Senate President Nick Scutari (D-22).

The annual lottery, which launched in 2019, is designed to partially offset the cost of preparing for and taking the CPA Exam. Review courses, study guides and other prep work, along with the actual cost of the Exam, can average more than $2,500.

This year’s winners include:

  • Mixhever Asani, Montclair State University
  • Nicolas Batelli, Rider University
  • Yaakov Kroll, Fairleigh Dickinson University – Lakewood
  • Allen Laster, Fairleigh Dickinson University – Metropolitan Campus
  • Allandria Munroe
  • Kishan Patel, Seton Hall University
  • Anh Phan
  • Jacob Press
  • Nina Sims
  • Zehnieta Turner

To be eligible, winners must sign up to take the first part of the four-part CPA Exam between Dec. 1, 2022, and Nov. 30, 2023, and they must be currently enrolled in a New Jersey college or university or graduated within the past five years. Winners must also not receive compensation for taking the Exam from their employer.

“The CPA Exam Fee Lottery is a wonderful way to lessen some of the financial burden associated with taking the CPA Exam. The overall cost to prepare and register for it can be high, but becoming a CPA is such a rewarding a career,” admits Henrietta Fuchs, CPA, president of the NJCPA Scholarship Fund and partner at CohnReznick LLP.

“The Lottery is a novel concept and addresses a very real need for the community to assist these aspiring CPAs. It comes at a great time, while we are recognizing the important roles that CPAs play in our society,” added Ralph Albert Thomas, CPA (DC), CGMA, CEO and executive director at the NJCPA.

The lottery was made possible by the NJCPA Scholarship Fund, which, through the generous backing of members and accounting firms, has supported more than 2,000 New Jersey students totaling more than $7 million in awards since 1960.
